Holiday Weekend

May 27, 2003

Wet. Very wet. And not in a good way.

I spent the weekend down in NC trying to get ready for the Great Northern Migration. Unfortunately the rain and some health issues kept us from getting nearly as much done as we should have. We did take down some rotted railing, wash the carport ceiling, sand a bunch of posts and rails for painting and clear out the front flower bed. Okay, so we didn't clear out the front flower bed because it was choked with huge trees and brambles. We had to get someone with a truck and chainsaw to do it but it did get done.

The next time I go down we'll be painting everything outside of the house that needs painting. Hopefully the rain will have frickin' stopped by then. Then we'll focus more on the inside of the house and start packing things in boxes. I'm hoping to be painting inside the house in early to mid July. It'll be hot and yucky probably but that can't be helped now.

It's going to be a close call trying to get her moved before MDRF -- even going down there every other weekend. The thing is though, we have to get the house mostly done and most of her things boxed up before we can start looking at places to live in VA.

Saturday morning I went out to Haymarket to watch the Clanlad's soccer game. I think they won... or tied. I don't know. I really don't pay attention to the score. I'm more interested with physically being there and watching his skills increase. Of course there's some backsliding... like when he's on defense, the ball is at the other end of the field and I look over at him and he's down on both knees "resting". Cause y'know it's soooooo tough for an eight year old to stay up on both feet. *g*

After his game ended we drove up to Reston so I could get my cellphone fixed. It took about 15 minutes and the guy said I should loose as many calls now. Well, I tried it out on the way home -- all the way down the Fairfax Co. Parkway -- and got nothing but "Call Not Completed. Network Busy." *sigh* We also stopped at the grocery store to pick up some dinner fixin's since it was after 4:00 PM. I tried the phone once again.... "Call Not Completed. Network Busy."

Sunday I went and rented a car (a fireengine red Dodge Neon) so I would have something while mine is being repaired. It's a fast little car and while there is plenty of headroom and legroom I don't think I would want to drive a Neon all the time. On the way back I tried my cellphone once again. That's right, still got nothing but the message: "Call Not Completed. Network Busy."

That afternoon I mowed the lawn for a couple hours. (No, I wasn't crawling... that's how long it takes. It's a big-assed yard. Shaddup.) Then I decided to wash my mother's car. The Clanlad and his friend (known as Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer for this tale) decided they would "help" me wash the car. They each washed the equivilent of a car door... then followed the water as it ran down the driveway and into the street.

I don't know what it is about boys and water and dams. I know I used to do it (and ocassionally still do. Shhhh!). For some reason whenever there is water flowing boys simply must build a damn. They got some bricks and spent the next couple hours playing in the water.

This morning when I turned on my cellphone, lo and behold, I got three voicemail notifications! Sadly two of them were from Keltik asking if I was coming over to her house for a BBQ. *sigh* Sorry I missed the festivities, hon, but sometimes life is just one big "Call Not Completed. Network Busy."

Whatta week!

May 2, 2003

I am such an idiot. No, scratch that. I'm a LAZY idiot.

I f*ed up. I kept putting off changing the oil in my car and as a result some major internal damage was done to the engine. With the prices mechanics charge for labor nowadays it's actually cheaper to replace the whole engine than take it apart and fix it. Unfortunately the cost of a USED engine is more than twice what the bluebook value of the car is.

I'm majorly pissed at myself. Not only has this pushed back my chance at getting a motorcycle but I'm having to borrow the money to get my car fixed. More debt. More obligation. Damn it. *sigh*

On a happier note, I started work yesterday! I probably won't be online much for the first week at least. Not until I scope out the terrain and see if I can get away with it. *g* I LOVE THIS JOB!! The work seems easy enough, the pay should be good and the people just RAWK!. Everyone works hard but there is a lot of horsing around and joking that goes on. I love this place! Not much else to tell. I've mostly been watching other people take calls and trying to learn my way around in Lotus Notes.

I also had lunch Wednesday with the beautiful Marcy. We laughed and chatted over $10 gumbo and BBQ. Unfortunately they didn't have any $5 shakes. ("It's a chopper, baby.") We came back to my house and talked for a couple hours -- something we haven't had the chance to do in ages. :-) I can't tell you how much I love that woman.

Everyone play nice and have a good weekend!
