"Musical Baebes"
09/26/2002
Y'know, you'd think that you'd stop being surprised that I let so much time lapse between updates. I'm lazy, get over it. There hasn't been much going on around here for the last couple of weeks. I went to Faire last Saturday though and saw one set of the Medieval Baebes. They were pretty good and they're all attractive women, but honestly I could take them or leave them. They sound pretty good but I didn't hear anything so spectacular as to justify all the hype that surrounds them. I mean, Enya has been doing the same thing for far longer. Maybe it has something to do with the number of voices or something. I dunno, music isn't really my thing. I'm sure Celly and I will listen to them a couple times so I'll get her opinion on them.
Only two more days until Faire! Wheee! I am so looking forward to this weekend. For one it's the annual AFR Invasion of MDRF which means lots of friends that I haven't seen in a long time will be there. I expect there will also be the usual -- or rather the unusual -- shenannigins and plots. In fact, I know about a couple of them and let me tell you, there are gonna be some pretty good stories next week.
I bet you thought it would be nearly impossible for me to take fewer pictures than I did last weekend? You would of course be wrong. I haven't been even remembering that I have a camera much less pulling it out. THIS weekend shall be different though. Oh yes my faithful reader, there shall be pictures galore!
If I remember to take out the camera that is...
I'm also excited about this weekend because my sweety will be coming up from NC. I haven't seen her in four weeks due to financial and time contraints. *sigh* In fact, this is our 1 Year Anniversary weekend. We met at last year's Invasion; about 3 hours before closing on Sunday. We hit it off immediately and here we are a year later. That's the longest relationship I've had in the last 15 years. It's also the best relationship I've ever had. Lots of things about her are the best. *eg* (shaddup, Lisa) I love her to distraction and for some reason she's still under the impression that she loves me. Hopefully she'll continue to live in this dreamworld and never realize what a dufus I really am.
So let's just keep that part just between us, m'kay?

Lisa: I just didn't want you whining about me going off on another sex tangent. And if you don't know why that happens by now, I fear for your ever understanding the Gareth.
Darcy: Well what do I know from spelling? I'm a dufus. Er, doofus. Whatever.

I did NOT "whine". I was only expressing curiosity about the general direction of your page content.
You doofus.

P.S. I completely agree with you about the Baebes. I was not impressed with what I saw and heard. I've heard better harmonies and arrangements from our local madrigal groups, and, while the Baebes were pretty in that conventional skinny, button-nose way, they weren't the slightest bit engaging or charismatic. In fact, I thought they looked bored. The "dance" moves that they did were the kind I'd expect to see at a high school talent show. It gave me the impression that somebody decided to put together a girl group, but instead of doing hip hop, they thought they'd market it with a "medieval" twist to be unique. Instead of standing out with actual talent. I put "medieval" in quotes because, according to what one of them said onstage, they took medieval poems and made up their own tunes for them. Which is certainly a cool idea... if one can write good tunes *in the tradition* instead of what sounds like tunes that Enya would have rejected.
I've tried not to be too public with my dislike of an act at MDRF, but it does make me angry to see, yet again, a group get all the hype and attention when there are so many more talented musicians out there.
I'd call it a doofus show, but I don't wanna insult the ClanChief and incur his mighty wrath.

Yay!! Happy engagement, mister clanchief! :D
And I liked the Baebes. But I like them in a completely different way from how I like, say, the Pyrates. The Baebes have almost as much estrogen collectively as I have individually -- maybe that's why. ;)
But then, I like everyone anyway.
Mostly.
